Teen Librarian – Hoboken Public Library
The Hoboken Public Library is seeking a creative, energetic, and innovative librarian with passion for library services to provide services to the growing teen population.
Position Overview: Leads Hoboken Public Library services to teens, including reference and readers’ advisory, collection development and maintenance, circulation and programming.  Reports to Head of Youth Services Department.  Schedule includes evening and weekend hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages day-to-day operations of Young Adult Room
  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory services
  • Plans and conducts teen programs, coordinates all teen programming and  supervises use of space
  • Maintains statistics on Young Adult activities, and creates statistical  reports of same, as directed
  • Prepares bibliographies, flyers, bulletin boards, displays, and publicity for teen services.
  • Works with local schools and community organizations to promote and coordinate services to teens.
  • Supervises and trains one part-time teen librarian and one part- time library assistant.
    Assists with circulation, reference, and technical services in other departments as needed
  • Supervises all library operations on occasion, as assigned, serves as a member of library management team

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • ALA-accredited MLS and NJ Professional Librarian Certification
  • At least 1 year of successful full time employment in the Public Library, preferably in the area of teen services.
  • Strong knowledge of Young Adult literature, thorough knowledge, enthusiasm and love for  public library services and programs to teens
  • Thorough knowledge of public library services and programs, especially teen services and YA literature
  • Ability to learn equipment of HPL Creation Space
  • Familiarity with modern library technologies
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, with the library's business contacts, and with other staff
  • Ability to understand and interpret library policies
  • Comfortable working with teenagers

Compensation:  Salary - $51,783+ commensurate with experience.  Full Benefits Package. Civil Service Position.

Human Resources Manager/HR Consultant
We’re looking for an experienced and skilled human resource professional to support the Hoboken Public Library’s strategic plan as it relates to talent management, organizational development, benefits administration and other key HR initiatives. This support includes leading the implementation of core human resource initiatives regarding hiring, employee engagement, succession planning, talent development, and the development of human resource policies, processes, and training.
Responsibilities include overall responsibility for the recruitment, retention and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provides guidance to the Library Director, library managers and the Trustee’s Personnel and Policy Committee with regards to HR issues.
  • Coordinates and implements employee-related services, policies, and procedures.
  • Supports HR processes including a performance review process, succession planning, leadership assessments and internal talent development.
  • Cultivates the Library’s culture, values, and mission across all levels of the organization.
  • Coordinates the Library’s recruitment and selection processes for attracting new hires including interviews of potential candidates during the selection process.
  • Oversees the Library’s benefits program.
  • Facilitates onboarding for new hires and ensures continuing training and development opportunities for library employees.
  • Conducts exit interviews to analyze and identify trends which impact retention and to identify solutions that will lead to improved employee satisfaction and lower turnover.
  • Collaborates with the Library Director to investigate employee complaints and resolve conflicts such as Union, NJ Civil Service, EEOC, harassment, discrimination or ethics charges.
  • Develops reporting processes and maintains personnel records required by federal, state or local law.
  • Analyzes current trends, policies, procedures and prepares reports as needed for the Director and Board Personnel and Policy Committee.

Salary: $30.00 to $40.00 /hour
