LIBRARY ADULT COMMUNITY RELATIONS ASSISTANT PART-TIME 
25 HOURS PER WEEK

The Hoboken Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to work in the Adult Services Department. Duties include

  • Working together with Program Coordinator and other staff to create and implement a regular community organizations visits and assist with organizing  family programs and special events that respond to customer and community demand
  • Assisting with set up and take down of program space and ensure that the presenter arrives and leaves on time
  • Employing various strategies and methods to market programs to a broad audience under direction of the Adult Programming Coordinator
  • Assessing programs by keeping a record of attendance
  • Maintaining outreach library collection
  • Speaking to community groups as requested
  • Additional duties as required

Successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

  • Be extremely reliable and punctual
  • Work independently often outside the library building
  • Be able to bend, climb stairs, carry, stand, move light furniture and walk around the city pushing a light cart
  • Have some working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows or willingness to learn
  • Exhibit flexibility and a willingness to work in a dynamic, busy, and changing environment
  • Learn and adapt to new and changing technologies
  • Public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of local community, civil and business groups a plus

LIBRARY ASSISTANT PART-TIME  (Circulation Department)
25 HOURS PER WEEK (Evening and weekend hours)

The Hoboken Public Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to work in the adult circulation department. Duties include welcoming and assisting library patrons of all ages, checking library materials in and out, answering phones, registering patrons for library cards, collecting fines, shelving and sorting materials, reader’s advisory and interlibrary loan processing. The successful candidate should possess excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills, strong computer skills, be organized and detail oriented, and be a cooperative and adaptable team player with fellow staff and patrons.

Must be a high school graduate. Library experience preferred.  Pay Rate is $12 per hour. The preference will be given to Hoboken residents. Schedule includes evening and weekend hours. Human Resources Manager/Personnel Officer Consultant, Hoboken Public Library
We’re looking for an experienced and skilled human resources professional to support the Hoboken Public Library’s strategic plan as it relates to talent management, organizational development, benefit administration and other key HR initiatives. This support includes leading the implementation of core human resource initiatives regarding hiring, employee engagement, succession planning, talent development, and the development of human resource policies, processes, and training. 

Responsibilities include overall responsibility for the recruitment, retention and ongoing development of a superior workforce. Specific responsibilities:

  1. Provides guidance to the Library Director, library managers and the Trustee’s Personnel and Policy Committee with regards to HR issues.
  2. Coordinates and implements employee-related services, policies, and procedures.
  3. Supports HR processes including a performance review process, succession planning, leadership assessments and internal talent development. 
  4. Cultivates the Library’s culture, values and mission across all levels of the organization.
  5. Coordinates the Library’s recruitment and selection processes for attracting new hires including interviews of potential candidates during the selection process.
  6. Oversees the Library’s benefit program.
  7. Facilitates on-boarding for new hires and ensures continuing training and development opportunities for library employees.
  8. Conducts exit interviews to analyze and identify trends which impact retention and to identify solutions that will lead to improved employee satisfaction and lower turnover.
  9. Collaborates with the Library Director to investigate employee complaints and resolve conflicts such as Union, NJ Civil Service, EEOC, harassment, discrimination or ethics charges.
  10. Develops reporting processes and maintains personnel records required by federal, state or local law.
  11. Analyzes current trends, policies, procedures and prepares reports as needed for the Director and Board Personnel and Policy Committee.

The publicly-funded Hoboken Public Library, located in Hudson County, NJ, is part of an exciting, diverse, vibrant city of 50,000 people.  

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree with a concentration in human resources, personnel management or an equivalent combination of training and experience plus 5 years of diverse HR generalist experience.  SPHR/PHR certification preferred.  

In addition, you should have:

  • The ability to effectively interact with staff at all levels within the organization
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Proven project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel and Power Point 

You should be willing to respond as needed to after-business hours issues and attend evening meetings of the Board of Trustees or Personnel and Policy Committee as needed.

Must have a valid New Jersey driver’s license, Spanish language skills would be helpful but are not required.

Salary: $30-40 per hour, 20 hours per week.
