Maker Space


Learn, Create and Make
The Hoboken Creation Space is a public
makerspace : a place where the library hopes to foster learning and creativity through education and access to tools. We will host classes and collaborative projects as well as have the space open for general use on Mondays. Our tools and classes will span a variety of  technologies, arts & crafts, and cooking.

Classes and Workshops
Library staff and special guest instructors will also teach various maker
classes each month.

Open Use Time
Mondays 1:00pm-7:00pm
The Creation Space will be open on Mondays with many of the tools and
equipment available for use.
No appointment or registration required! An assortment of the tools will be available for use and a staff member will be present to assist.  Those under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Open Tech Time
On Mondays between 1 PM and 3 PM as part of our Makerspace we will have Open Tech Time. Bring your technology or computer question and check out the library's ereaders and tablets
. 

July Maker Events

Adult Programs
Wednesday Morning Art for Adults
On Wednesdays at 10 AM, after an introduction to the art of collage, the history of collage, and techniques and materials required for collage, Liz Cohen will share the works of multi collage artists. Students will be given a collection of papers, photos and newspaper clippings. Come early for a seat.

Learn about Drones
Join us Thursday July 13 at 6 PM for a presentation and drone demonstration relating to current drone technology, legislation and impacts this technology has on the communities we live in.

Tasty Arrangements
Join us on Tuesday July 25 at 10:30 AM to create your own mini fruit arrangement to take home and ENJOY! No experience necessary! All tools and fruit are provided and class is guided by an instructor. Limited to 15 people so come early to reserve a spot.

Writing Workshop: Find Your Voice Through Journaling
An overactive mind can distract us from tapping into our potential in areas such as work, relationships, and self-development. Join us on Wednesday July 26 at 6:30 PM, to be introduced to journaling as a new way to relieve stress and promote clarity. Come unwind your mind.  Part of the Library’s and the City of Hoboken’s Wellness Wednesday Workshops.

Kid and Teen Programs
Block Party
On Thursdays at 3:15 PM, if you love Lego bricks, come build with us. For children ages 4 and up (younger siblings are welcome).  Eventbrite tickets required.

Flip-Flop Makeover for Teens
On Thursday July 6 @ 2 PM, get ready for summer vacation! Transform your old flip-flops into new. Bring your own shoes and we’ll provide the materials to upgrade them.

Bead Art for Teens
On Thursday July 13 @ 2 PM, make your favorite characters or create your own designs with Perler Beads.

Paint Chip Murals for Kids
On Friday July 14 at 2 PM, listen to a story and design a mural made from paint chips! For children ages 5 and up. This program requires a free Eventbrite ticket for each child, reserved the day. Please bring the ticket(s) on the day of the program (either in print or on your mobile device).

Reverse Glass Painting for Kids and Teens
On Thursday July 20 at 4 PM, for kids and teens ages 10 and up. Senegalese artist Ibou Ndoye will demonstrate and teach students about the West African art tradition. Students will learn how to draw and paint on glass to create unique artwork. Materials are limited so please RSVP on Eventbrite.

Lego Social Skills Building Groups
Is your child on the Autism Spectrum or have another special needs challenge? If so, join us on Wednesday, July 26 at 3:30 PM, for kids 3-4 years and at 4:30 PM for kids 5 to 8 years for special LEGO clubs for building and making new friends. These programs require a free ticket for each child, which can be reserved the day prior to the program on Eventbrite.  Please bring printed tickets or have them available on your phone.
