Maker Space


Learn, Create and Make
The Hoboken Creation Space is a public
makerspace : a place where the library hopes to foster learning and creativity through education and access to tools. We will host classes and collaborative projects as well as have the space open for general use on Mondays. Our tools and classes will span a variety of  technologies, arts & crafts, and cooking.

Classes and Workshops
Library staff and special guest instructors will also teach various maker
classes each month.

Open Use Time
Mondays 1:00pm-7:00pm
The Creation Space will be open on Mondays with many of the tools and
equipment available for use.
No appointment or registration required! An assortment of the tools will be available for use and a staff member will be present to assist.  Those under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Open Tech Time
On Mondays between 1 PM and 3 PM as part of our Makerspace we will have Open Tech Time. Bring your technology or computer question and check out the library's ereaders and tablets
. 

Kid's Maker Monday
We will be holding S.T.E.A.M. inspired projects during Monday Open Maker Space time at 4 PM. For ages 5+.

July Morning Art
On Wednesdays in July starting on July 10 at 10 AM, Art teacher, Liz Cohen Ndoye, will hold a series of art classes.

August Morning Art with Liz
The August classes Wednesdays (Aug 1,15,22, 29), from 10 AM - 12 PM will focus on the theme of playful and vacation images. Students will learn and build on the fascinating theory and skills of right brain learning. Drone Program
Have an out of this world experience with Drones Thursday August 9 at 6:30 pm! Get an overview of drones and their uses. Legality will be discussed as it applies to public safety and the FAA controlling National Airspace. There will be flying demos and video examples.  Saverio Camporeale worked for ABC & NBC News, honored by EMMYS and national awards and is a FAA certified drone pilot and a member of The Academy of Model Aeronautics.

Ibou’s Glass Art Painting
In this special DIY class Thursday, August 16th at 6:30 pm, you will learn how to paint on the back or reverse side of the glass. The magic of this process is that only the finished and very neat product can be seen from the front of the glass. Participants will take home a fully finished, framed, and beautiful piece of original art. Ages 10+.

Take Better Pictures with Your Cell
Saturday, August 25 at 1 pm learn easy tricks for improving cell phone photos. Ages 12+. 

Monthly Comics Workshop
Starting Sept 10 at 6:30 pm, learn all the ins and outs of drawing your own comics!

Makerspace Procedures and Rules of Use
1. When creating digital content with the library’s equipment, please remember to bring your own storage devices (flash drive) or store your work via an online cloud service. The library’s computers do not store individual work or projects.
2. When the space is open, there is a first come, first serve policy when it comes to utilizing tools and equipment. a. If another patron is waiting to use a tool or device, we ask that you limit your time to one hour.
3. Anyone under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult when using the Makerspace.
4. Patrons need to have received training from a librarian or shown proficiency in using the button makers before using them.

3-D Printing Guidelines
1. Use of the 3D printer and scanner will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
2. A staff member must be present to supervise the use of the 3D printer and manage the printing queue. Staff will have final say when determining the order of print jobs when there is a queue.
3. The library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
4. There is a charge for 3D printing, which is based on the amount of PLA filament used and the maintenance of the machine.
5. The library’s 3D printer may be used only for lawful purposes. The public will not be permitted to use the 3D printer to create material that is:
a. Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
b. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses and immediate threat to the well-being of others (such use may violate the terms of the manufacturer.)
c. Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
d. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
