Patrons need to present their library card to check out materials.
(Please Note: The card should belong to the person presenting it.)
Multimedia materials need to be checked out no later than
15 minutes before closing.
Circulation Policy Changes
The Hoboken Public Library is pleased to announce that beginning on October 3rd there will be a reduction in the late fees for DVDs to $1 per day per DVD. All items without holds (items on request for another patron) will be able to be renewed up to 2 times.

* Please note: There is a general limit of 50 items charged out to a patron’s account at one time.
Renewals
In-Person renewals:
Patrons need to present their library card or photo ID at the time of renewal.
Phone renewals:
Patrons need to provide their 14-digit library card number when renewing by phone. Please note: Phone renewals need to be made during library hours. Please do not leave your library card number on voicemail.
Online renewals:
To renew online go to www.bccls.org, select Your Library Card (located on the upper left hand column) enter your card number and PIN number where prompted. When your list appears check the boxes next to the titles you want to renew, scroll down and click Renew These Items. Wait until the list reloads with the new date due. Close window.
Maximum renewals – All library materials can be renewed once, although items on reserve or hold cannot be renewed.
Library Fees
Please note:
Library materials are borrowed free of charge. However, items not returned by the due date will be charged a late fee. Late fees are not charged for days the library is closed. Patrons owing more than $10.00 in fines will not be permitted to check out or renew items until fines are paid.
Hardcover books: .10 cents a day ($5.00 maximum fine)
Paperback books: .10 cents a day ($5.00 maximum fine)
Audiobooks/Read-a-longs: .10 cents a day ($5.00 maximum fine)
Audiobooks placed in bookdrop: $1.00 per title
CD’s: .25 cents a day ($5.00 maximum fine)
CD’s returned in the bookdrop: $1.00 per title.
CD-ROM’s: $1.00 per day ($10.00 maximum fine)
CD-ROM’s returned in bookdrop: $5.00 per title.
DVD’s: $2.00 per day ($20.00 maximum fine)
DVD’s returned in bookdrop: $5.00 per title
Late Notices:
Patron accounts will be charged cost of postage for each notice mailed.
Audio-visual drop box: Library patrons can now return all media materials in the special audio-visual material drop box located on the left-hand side of the main entrance to the library.
How to Place an Inter-Library Loan Request or Reserve an item online
When you locate the item you are interested in, click the request box, located on the left-hand side of the entry. Enter your card number at the prompt, do not use spaces. Click continue.
Verify your telephone number.
If you wish to be contacted by e-mail enter your e-mail address at the prompt.
** If you wish to receive e-mail notification when your item arrives you must click yes at the prompt.
Enter the latest date you will accept the item requested.
Click place request box at bottom of the screen. You will receive a prompt that your request has been placed. Click on the prompt to continue your search.

Available = On the Shelf * Note item may be on reserve.

In Transit = Being Delivered
High Demand = These items can not be requested through loan. Patron may go to holding library and check it out if its on the shelf.
Rent = These items can not be requested through loan. Patron may go to holding library, and for a fee, check out these materials.
Reference = Reference materials may not be loaned and may not be checked out.
You may have up to 5 e-mail requests in the system at one time. Items are checked out to your account before they are sent to the Hoboken Public Library; subsequently the time you may have them for may be curtailed. |
