The Fall Session of the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library's ESL Classes will run from Wednesday Oct. 4 through Wednesday Dec. 13.

Creatures Of The Night
On Thursday November 30 at 6 PM explore the creepy, crawly animals of the night with Tenafly Nature Center's Animal Ambassadors of the dark! Adults and families with children 4+ can come to  explore nocturnal creatures and their habits.

Intro to Government Contracting
The SCORE seminar on Tuesday, December 5 at 6:30 pm will discuss how federal, state, and municipal governments issue contracts for goods and services, explains how obtaining such contracts could help your business grow, and presents practical strategies for obtaining such contracts.

Morning Art with Liz Cohen Ndoye
December 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10 AM - 12:00 PM classes will accommodate beginners as well as more experienced artists. In December the focus will be portraiture and learning about the techniques and aesthetics of specific artist both contemporary and historic. The artists studied will be: Alice Neel, Modigliani, Mary Cassat, and Kehinde Wiley.

Wellness Wednesday’s Meditation Holiday
On Wednesday, December 6 at 6pm, ease your way through the holidays with a guided meditation class. Learn simple meditation and breathing techniques which can be done for as little as five minutes a day to relieve stress and calm scattered thoughts.

Make a Holiday Present with Liz & Ibou
On Thursday, December 7 at 7pm, participants will make and take home a fully finished, framed, and beautiful piece of original art using the technique of reverse glass painting.

Diana Henriques Book Tour
On Saturday, December 9th at 12 PM Diana B. Henriques, the author of A First-Class Catastrophe: The Road to Black Monday, The Worst Day in Wall Street History and the New York Times bestseller The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust, is a contributing writer for The New York Times, and will be making a special appearance at the Hoboken Public Library.

Affordable Care Act Assistance
On December 11 from 10 AM-2 PM, Jessica Gigantino of Single Stop will be at HPL to help sign ups for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act.

Writer’s Workshop
Join the Hoboken Public Library’s Writer’s Workshop on Monday, December 11 at 6:30 PM, to discuss your writing in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.  For more information and to submit your work in advance to the group please email

Holiday Buttons
On Monday December 11 between 6 and 7 PM, come make up to 10 free buttons as part of our Makerspace. Give them as gifts, or keep them for yourself.

Crochet a Gift for the Holidays
On Tuesday, December 12 at 6 PM, Lisa Barnes will teach a special class in learning arm knitting (you use thick chunky yarn, putting loops over your arms and using your hands to "knit."). It's a very quick technique, students can finish a project in one two-hour class. And it's a great way to make quick holiday presents!

Mile Square City Books
On Tuesday December 12 at 6:30 PM the Mile Square City Readers book club will discuss Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf, which has been described as "A sweet love story about the twilight years."

The Lady Memoir Book Club
The Lady Memoir Book Club at Little City Books will wrap up our first year with I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai on December 13 at 7 PM.

No Bake Holiday Desserts
On Thursday, December 14 from 6 - 8 pm, come and learn how to make easy last minute desserts that require no baking for the holidays. During this 2 hour program, we will be making 2 delicious desserts. One will be demonstrated and the other will have a more hands on approach as people will be able to participate and learn how  to  make  their own at home. Ages 8 to adult are welcomed. There will be unlimited seats to observe but those arriving first can participate.

Sci - Fi/ Fantasy Book & Movie
The Hoboken Public Library’s Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Discussion Group will meet on Monday, December 18 to discuss The Time Machine by HG Wells at 6 PM. Before the discussion come and see a movie adaptation at 4 PM.  Email for more information.  Books for this and the Mile Square City Readers discussion can be obtained at the second floor reference desk.

Climate Mobilization Meeting
If you care about the environment in Hoboken and the planet, come and find out what you can do on Thursday, December 21 at 7 PM. Pizza will be served.
