Company Research–On January 26th at 5:30 PM, Matt Latham will guide the class through company research as it relates to job seeking.  The class will view a demonstration of free resources available at the library and online, including EBSCO and Reference USA databases.

The Road
On January 27th, join us for a discussion of Cormac McCarthy’s masterpiece, The Road.  There will be two discussion sessions: 2:00 PM and 6:30 PM.  Join us for a rich discussion about this moving postapocalyptic story of a father and his son.

Exploring Our Solar System
On Tuesday, February 9th at 6:00 PM, the library will have a special program to help participants learn to explore our solar system and introduce the world of astronomy. Mr. Paul Cirillo is a 25 year member and Qualified Observer with the New Jersey Astronomical Association, which operates the largest public observatory in New Jersey.

The Inside Man
On Tuesday, February 16th at 2:00 PM, in honor of Black History month we will be featuring one of the latest films by acclaimed African American director Spike Lee.

Job Search Strategy and Networking Workshop
On February 16th at 5:30 pm, learn the basics of how to plan your job search, strategize important steps to take, and how to organize your efforts on the computer. We will also briefly explore the basics of job search networking. Job workshops taught by librarian Matt Latham.

African Issues Lecture
On Thursday, February 18th at 5:30, the library will launch a new monthly lecture series. Our inaugural lecture will commemorate Black History Month by exploring the social, political and economic history of African Americans. Our guest lecturer will be Dr. Wale Ajibade of the educational nonprofit organization African Issues. For this lecture, we will have an introduction by Dr. Ajibade, screen the documentary 500 Years Later, and conclude with a discussion. Please register at 201-420-2347 since space is limited.

Online Job Searching Class
On February 23rd at 5:30 pm, this workshop will explore some of the basics of searching for a job online (filling out forms, signing up with job search websites).  Learn the tools of some of the instructor’s favorite job searching websites.

The Help
On Wednesday, February 24th, the library will feature two book discussions on Kathryn Stockett’s The Help, one at 2:00 PM and one at 6:30 PM.  This popular book depicts the civil rights movement during the early 60’s through the experience of three women.

Teen Writing Group
December 17 and January 7 & 21at 6pm—Writers in 6th through 12th grade, Meet other teen writers and get feedback on your work. Bring your poems, stories and other creative writing to share. Refreshments will be served.

Poetry Reading for Black History Month
Come hear students from local Middle and High Schools read their favorite poems by African American poets. Date TBA.

Rainbow Crow
On February 6 at 2:00 PM, children and their families can enjoy cultural storytelling by Lauren Hooker.  The story is based on legends and traditions of the Lenape who inhabited NJ.  This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library.

African Folk Tales for Children
On February 17th at 3:15, storyteller, Julie Pasqual, will share with children of all ages traditional stories from Africa and the African American Tradition.
