DIY: Sweet – Cake Baking Basics
On Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 pm, owner and chef Angela from Sweet bakery in Hoboken will be here to give a demonstration on the basics of cake baking. Program is at capacity.

Writer’s Group

The Films of Stanley Kubrick
Join us for two of Stanley Kubrick’s classic films.  On Tuesday, February 7 at 2:00 PM, the library will screen the quirky and thought provoking, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.  On Tuesday, February 14th at 2:00 PM, we will feature Kubrick’s interpretation of Nabokov’s classic novel, Lolita.

Excel Classes
 If you are interested in using spread sheets we are offering two Excel Classes with Excel 1 on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 6:00 PM and Excel 2 on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 6:00 PM. 

Cultural Transparency
This month in our second floor gallery the library will feature African inspired artwork created by Liz Cohen and Ibou Ndoye.  A reception will be held on February 16 at 6:00 PM.

Book Discussion
Joan Didion’s Blue Nights is a haunting biographical piece that uses thoughts about Didion’s daughter’s death to explore not only her relationship with her daughter, but also with her husband and her own childhood.  Join us for a thought provoking discussion on February 29 at 2:00 PM.

The History of Beer
On Wednesday, February 29 at 6:00 PM, the library is pleased to host Mr. Brandt Schweinsberg, beer manager of the Iron Monkey in Jersey City. Brandt will present a talk on the cultural significance of beer, its history and its many varieties.  Participants will be given the opportunity to sample different beers from around the world. You must be 21 or older with official ID to attend this event.

On Mondays 4 PM, Teens entering grades 6-12 are invited to a Digital Photography Workshop taught by Wendy Setzer. Please RSVP for the program at the YA desk. Space is limited.

Fridays @ 3:00-Play Station 2, XBOX 360, and Wii sports and music after school game time-For teens in grades 6-12.

Black History Month Poetry
The YA Department will host its annual poetry reading to honor Black History Month Feb 24 at 10:30 AM. High school and middle school students will share poems by African American Poets.

On Thursday, February 9 at 3:45 PM, children of all ages are invited to hear master storyteller, Julie Pasqual, perform African and African America tales.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library.

The Phoenix Woodwinds’ Babar
Back by popular demand, on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 PM the Phoenix Woodwinds for Young Audiences returns to the Hoboken Public Library.  This special Saturday program is sponsored by the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library.  No reservation is required.
